JAG for the 101st (COL Richard M. Whitaker) advises that the Division Commander cannot authorize a retroactive award of the Air Assault Badge (contrary to previous information from the Military Awards Branch - see CORRESPONDENCE page).


101st Airborne Division Vietnam Veterans
The 101st Airborne Division Vietnam Veterans Association supports the retroactive Air Assault Badge.

American Division Association
Richard Scales, National Commander of the Americal Division Veterans Association is making plans to participate in the Stakeholders Meeting.
Alpha Avengers
The Alpha Avengers Association (A Company, 2/501st Infantry, 101st Airborne Veterans of the War in Vietnam) have voted to support the Retroactive Air Assault Award.

The original 101st Airborne Division Vietnam Veterans Assocation, founded by CPT Ed Harris (Ret) supported the retroactive Air Assault Badge awards for Vietnam combat veterans from the beginning.

Both the Texas and Illnois VFW support the Retroactive Air Assault Award. A support request from the VFW national organization is pending approval now.
